Thing 5

Wiki's are different then blogs because anyone with a computer can have access to them and anyone can edit or make changes to them once posted. Wikipedia's can be very useful in the classroom because students can post articles in a wikipedia (encyclopedia) and other students can help edit the article and it can also give teachers access to the articles and make changes to it if neccessary. It also can show students that writing articles is not a tedious assignment but one that millions of people do for fun and at the same time can improve their articles.

  1. You're absolutely right that anyone can edit a wiki (as long as the wiki is set up to allow for public editing); however, blogs are equally accessible regarding Internet usage. The main difference is that wikis are more collaborative in nature, whereas blogs usually feature one author's writings with the opportunity for others to comment.

I also think you may be confused regarding the difference between a wiki and Wikipedia. Wikipedia is one (very large) example of a wiki, which like all wikis can be edited by many people. Editing a Wikipedia article might be an interesting exercise for students, especially for demonstrating how easily a source that is widely relied upon (especially by students searching the Internet for quick answers) can be edited. Keep in mind, however, that you can create wikis for many other purposes as well.

    Thing 5 complete.
